What Nobody Told You About Pancafit

Most people who find this article have already tried stretching. They've done yoga. Maybe Pilates. Maybe a physical therapist gave them a home program. Their posture hasn't changed. Their pain hasn't changed. What they haven't tried is working on the entire fascial chain at once — and that is exactly what Pancafit does. This is the only place in the United States where you can take a Pancafit class.

Pancafit: A Complete Guide to Global Postural Stretching

What follows is a full explanation of the Pancafit method — what it is, how it works, who it helps, and why it produces postural changes that conventional stretching cannot. If you are in pain, if your posture has not responded to anything you've tried, or if you simply want to understand the science behind fascial chain work, this article was written for you.

Dr. Birikov is the first and only Functional Patterns practitioner in Baltimore and the only Pancafit instructor in the United States.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions patients ask before their first Pancafit session.

How is Pancafit different from yoga or regular stretching?

Yoga and conventional stretching work on individual muscles in sequence. Pancafit positions the entire body so that multiple fascial chains are loaded simultaneously. The distinction matters because many chronic postural problems live in the connective tissue between muscles — at the junctions where one fascial layer connects to the next. Isolated stretching does not reach those junctions. Global postural stretching does. If you have stretched consistently for years without postural improvement, the restriction is almost certainly not in the muscle belly itself.

Do I need to be flexible or have any prior experience to take a Pancafit class?

No prior experience is required, and flexibility is not a prerequisite. Pancafit is used specifically for people whose movement and posture have not responded to conventional approaches — which means most participants are not particularly flexible when they start. The apparatus is adjusted to your body and your current range of motion. Dr. Birikov sets the positioning for each participant individually, so the stretch is appropriate for where you are, not where a flexible person would be.

How often should I attend Pancafit classes to see postural improvement?

Once or twice per week is the typical starting frequency for postural correction work. Fascial tissue responds to repeated loading over time — a single session produces a response, but the cumulative effect of consistent sessions is what produces lasting change. Most patients with chronic postural patterns see meaningful improvement within 6 to 8 sessions. Restrictions that have been present for a decade will take longer than those that developed in the past year. After your first session, Dr. Birikov can give you a more specific estimate based on what he observes.

The Point

A Note on Why This Method Is Unfamiliar

Most American patients have never heard of Pancafit. That is not a reflection of the method's validity — it is a reflection of how slowly European rehabilitation techniques cross the Atlantic. The fascial chain model that underlies Pancafit is the same model that informs myofascial release, IASTM, and the broader body of connective tissue research. Pancafit simply applies that model through a specific apparatus and positioning protocol that produces global effects.

If your chronic pain or postural problem has resisted everything you have tried, the most useful question is not 'what haven't I tried' — it is 'what principle have I not yet applied.' Pancafit operates on a principle that most American PT clinics do not use, because most American PT clinics do not have the apparatus or the training.

Good Questions

Book a Pancafit Session

What topics does the Physica Medica blog cover?

Physica Medica is located at 800 S Bond St, Baltimore, MD 21231. Pancafit classes are available by appointment. Because class size is intentionally small and positioning must be set individually for each participant, sessions are scheduled directly with Dr. Birikov.

Who writes the articles on this blog?

To schedule or to ask a question about whether Pancafit is appropriate for your situation, call 443-228-8029 or send a message through the contact page. Dr. Birikov reads every inquiry personally and responds directly.

How is this blog different from generic physical therapy advice?

Generic advice describes conditions. These articles trace chains: why a shoulder problem can live in the rib cage, why a jaw can hold a diaphragm. That is the reasoning patients most often have never encountered before.
